Last Chance Preview-Downstate (November 18, 2017)
Abreu stands in at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.19 – 60, just slightly faster than his previous mark set at 7.35 in October 2017. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher in a wide stance. Smooth prior to the pitch with an efficient trigger allowing his hands to get into a good position. Shows quick hands with a level barrel path hitting the ball up the middle and to the opposite field. Swing path is slightly long, but a more direct path to the ball will clean that up. Recorded an exit velocity of 79 MPH, shy of his previous best mark of 85 MPH set in October 2017. Defensively- Approach could be more direct through the baseball on the crow hop. This would allow more of the body to get behind the throw. Moves well and with minor adjustment would be smooth through the transition from the glove to the throw. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 79 MPH, a 2 MPH improvement from October 2017. Pitching- Righty sets up on the left side of the rubber with simple fluid mechanics. Gets good separation before the drive down the mound. Could use more of the lower half to get more into the throw. Utilizes a high ¾ arm swing with a good follow through into a fielding position. Fastball was 76-78 MPH and peaked at 79 MPH. Curveball was 67-68 MPH with 12/6 action. Change up was 68-69 MPH with arm side sink.
Downstate Unsigned Senior (October 22, 2017)
Abreu stands in at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.35 – 60. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet wide outside his shoulders. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick toe tap to stride forward while his hands move slightly back into his hitting position. Quick hands to the hitting zone with a slight upward lift barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved in the swing. Demonstrated good plate coverage and the ability to hit line drives to all fields during batting practice rounds. Recorded an exit velocity of 85 MPH, an 8 MPH improvement from July 2017. Defensively- Quick feet with good approach to the baseball. Shows a quick transition with accurate throws. Crow hop mechanics are smooth gaining ground throughout the process of the throw. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 77 MPH, a 3 MPH improvement from July 2017. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg kick above his hip crease. Good drive down with appropriate separation getting into a good throwing position with a mid-¾ release point. Utilizes whole body when throwing and repeats delivery on different pitches. Fastball sat 74-76 MPH and peaked at 79 MPH with good arm side run. Slider shows a tight break flashing 71-72 MPH.
Campus Series-Marist (July 25, 2017)

Could swing with more intent an attack the ball once it gets into the hitting zone. Recorded an exit velocity of 73 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork getting underneath the baseball. Shows a good transition from glove to throwing hand with good aggressive steps towards intended throwing target. Shows an appropriate outfielder arm swing with accurate throws.
