Academy Stars Tryouts (November 18, 2017)
6-foot-3 190 pound catcher who hits from the right side. Offensively- More involved with his lower half then back in July, as a result a spike in his exit velocity to 87 MPH has occurred. Stays behind the ball to and through his finish, lacking weight transfer. Flyball/line drive results. Defensively- Improved arm strength from 66 MPH to 68 MPH since July. Sticks the location when receiving; clean transfer and positive ground gained on pop step. Looks to be more continuous through his transfer into his throws, where as he was more segmented back in July. Some raw tools that will continue to improve with off-season training and maturity.
Campus Series- Canisius (July 5, 2017)
Rangy 6-foot-3 190 pound right-handed hitting catcher who ran a 4.64 home-to-1B. Offensively- Spread stance with an up-down leg kick for timing. Hands lead into the zone with the barrel staying on plane through the zone. Lower half late to rotate, losing some valued effort. Showed some gap-to-gap ability as there was still some bat speed attached to the swing. Exit velocity peaked at 75 MPH. Defensively- Compact setup with proper exchange of the feet gaining ground. Transfer is efficient with slight delay in arm action after it draws back. Being able to work through that hesitation will allow for more arm speed and improve overall arm strength (66 MPH). Solid receiver and proper technique in the dirt.
