Cape Cod: A well known prospect since his high school days in New York thanks to his righthanded power bat, which produced 10 homers in 208 at-bats for the Tar Heels this spring. We were on hand for his lone homer this summer at Chatham, as he pulled a slider down the right-field line for a grand slam – but otherwise his highlights were few, as he hit just .164 and struck out in almost half his at-bats (27 K in 55 AB). Strength isn't a question mark for Castagnozzi, but he must improve his approach, and his infield defense at third and second is still a work in progress, as he lacks foot speed and range.
Cape Cod- Had a modest true freshman season this spring and took some lumps in the summer, hitting .231 with two homers in 39 at-bats. His Cape performance was hindered by a hand injury early and an elbow injury late, cutting short his summer. But he flashed legitimate righthanded power potential with wood bats, and he has the athletic actions and arm to profile well at third base, where he can make the spectacular play at times but needs to retain his concentration better on routine plays. Though he's an athletic defender, he lacks speed on the basepaths
