Lucas Sossei RHP (Canajoharie HS, 2017)

8-16-14
Sossei stands 6-foot-3 210-pounds with a great pitchers frame. On the mound he uses a balanced knee lift and long arm action with good shoulder alignment before he pushes forward. He throws from an over the top slot and tilts his head hard to the first base side. His fastball sat 81-83 mph with projection for more in his arm. The fastball has natural arm side tail and his curveball sat 70 mph with some hard 12/6 late shape. He uses long extension and finishes over his front side falling towards first base.

1B/Hitting - Sossei has the right size frame needed to play the first base position standing a nice 6-foot-3 210-pounds. He fields the ball low to his glove side, moves his feet toward his target, long arm action to a high ¾ slot at 76 mph. At the plate his setup is slightly more than shoulder width apart, tall and balanced. He uses a back load with hands even with the shoulders and a front heel lift for timing. No stride on the pitch, hands stay inside the ball, bat path slightly upward, extension after contact to a balanced shoulder height finish. Exit velocity was 82 mph, but signs of power projection with strength training this off season.

7-2-14
Sossei stands 6-foot-3 210-pounds with a projectable body. He throws from a high over the top slot with a fastball sitting 81-82 mph. He has natural run on his fastball and throws cutter at 78 with right to left break. His changeup was 71 with near fastball arm speed. Mechanically he is sound but leans a little too much towards the 1B side with his head, more upright head and shoulder position will help him out. He finishes to the 1B side as well and needs to get out in front a little better. He is a projectable young arm that has a high ceiling.
