Cape Cod- Limited to just 19 at-bats over the last three seasons at loaded Vanderbilt, Matt Hogan entered the transfer portal this summer but has yet to announce if he's leaving. His carrying tool has always been his plus to plus-plus speed, which he used to swipe five bases this summer. But he also showed lefthanded pop to the pull side, hitting four homers in 88 at-bats. Hogan is a twitchy athlete with the strength and power to make an impact as a right fielder or center fielder. He just needs to prove he can consistently handle high-caliber pitching; the hit tool is the question mark at this stage, but he's an intriguing sleeper.
Athletic frame at 6-foot-0 190 pounds for the left-handed hitting OF/RHP. At the plate Hogan sets up slightly open with some lower half flexion; slight take back of the hands with and aggressive lower half. Swing path sweeps through the zone with some lift to his pull side. Above average bat speed; was 1-for-3 on the day. On the mound Hogan fired four shutout innings and was dominant. His fastball ranged between 87-89 MPH with a couple 90 MPH heaters sprinkled in. Smooth delivery, with a long-arm action. He worked up in the zone at times, but it was effective because they were unable to square it up. His fastball ranged between 87-89 MPH with a couple 90 MPHs sprinkled in. Showed a devastating 12-6 curveball at 76 MPH.
