Downstate Fall Preview (October 2, 2016)
Beyer, a right-handed hitting power first basemen, stands at an imposing 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, ran a 8.71 60. Offensively- Starts with a wide straight base weight evenly distributed. Hands are in front of the back shoulder with the bat straight up and down with a slight pre-pitch wiggle movement. Initiates the swing with a shift of weight to the backside using a buggy whip motion with the hands while the lead foot lifts slightly with minimal movement towards the pitcher. Showed plus power to the pull side line to the gap. Potential to drive the ball to all fields with some minor adjustments such as being able to stay through the ball after contact. Recorded an exit velocity of 83 MPH. Defensively- Big target showed good agility around the base moving fluidly to the glove side. Throws were accurate and showed carry across the diamond. Fielded the ball cleanly to the glove side as well as the down the first base line to the backhand side. Throws across the diamond to third base showed good carry and registered an arm velocity of 71 MPH.
