1/13/19 Body Type: 5-foot-7, 150-pound athletic frame. More muscular/filled out then numbers would suggest. Swing Mechanics: Athletic load, incorporating a leg kick with smooth hands back. Very efficient movements that creates balance and timing. Hit: Energy filled swing that really works. Natural knack for squaring up the baseball. Lower effort stroke that plays to all fields. Very complete, impressive round. Power: 79 mph exit velocity. Much more pop than frame/ exit velocity would indicate. Wiry strong with well above average hand speed for class. More of a line drive guy now with gap abilities. Offensive Projection: Top of the lineup Run: 4.35 H-1st. Above average runner w/burst out of the box. Field: Everything works. Top infielder we saw on the day. Rhythmic/athletic actions with ball skills that play in the middle. Defensive Projection: SS/2B with a slight lean to second base. Throw: 79 mph. Clean arm with accuracy and signs of more to come. Overall: Talented player who may be a bit under the radar because size/measurables don’t jump off the page. Definite college future with scholarship potential. D2/JUCO/NAIA take a look here. Intangibles are there as well, guy other players gravitate to.
8/12/18 A right-handed hitter that starts in an athletic stance. Very fluid, athletic movements to load. Balanced swinger that takes a slightly downhill path to contact. Swing offers a bit more strength than speed to hands presently. Top of the lineup type guy with sneaky pop. All fields approach in BP. Middle infielder with quick feet and soft hands. Does a nice job with feet prior to fielding to create angles. Plays through with ball skills on par for class. Second baseman skill set. Reliable defender. Infield Velocity: 76 Exit Velocity: 84 H-1st: 4.44
2/17/18
5-foot-7, 150 pound right-hand hitting infielder creates solid separation in his swing leading to a level stroke that squared up several pitches. Gillems gets in to a nice launch position ready to attack pitches followed by good ability to get his legs engaged into his swing. His exit velocity was 76 mph and that can be expected to increase as he puts on more size. Defensively Gillems has quick feet and worked great angles to the ball. His glovework was clean and smooth with nice actions. Average throwing velocity was 76 mph with good throws. Projects as a second basemen at the next level.
