Araujo

Araujo resides in Brazil but will be playing summer baseball for the Lake Erie Warhawks. The right-hander is in his second stint in the United States after attending multiple events this winter. There was definitely things to like a few months ago with his 6-foot-2 frame, above average breaking ball and fastball that hovered around 80 mph. Well whatever he did in Brazil in the spring has obviously paid off. Araujo looked much more explosive in his delivery with added arm speed that translated to added velocity (85 mph) and turning his breaking ball from above average to near plus.

Body Type: 6-foot-2, projectable frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Works exclusively from the stretch. Clean delivery that doesn’t require a ton of effort. Polished for class. Arm works well through a high-¾ slot.
Fastball: 78-81 mph. Pitch comes in well, displaying regular cutting action.
Curveball: 64-68 mph. Decent wrinkle of a breaking ball that works on an 11/5 plane.
Changeup: 73-75 mph. Developing feel. When in the zone the pitch looked the part stuff wise.
Pitchability: Fastball/breaking ball consistently in the zone, changeup developing.
Role: Starter

1/21/19 Pitching

Body Type: 6-foot-1 183-pound prospect.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Threw from a ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. The delivery was smooth, simple, and repeatable.

Fastball: 78-80 mph fastball showed a natural cutting action at times.

Curveball: 64-66 mph breaking ball showed good depth but did have a bit of a ‘hump’ in it.

Changeup: 74-76 mph changeup was mostly true through the zone and showed a similar amount of cutting action at times as his fastball.
Pitchability: Fastball/changeup combo pairs well. Showed good command of all three pitches.

Role: His ability to repeat his delivery and be consistent with his fastball and changeup in particular make him a potential starter type.

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 183-pound physical,  projectable frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Works exclusively from the stretch and can repeat. Delivery doesn’t require a ton of effort. Arm travels through a high-¾ slot with above average arm speed for class. Clean arm.
Fastball: 80-83 mph, Will use two and four seam. Both fastballs work on a downhill plane. Ball jumps out of hand, looking heavier than velo suggest. Shows physical signs of more velocity to come.
Curveball: 66-67 mph, Top secondary offering. Decent pitch that was in the zone regularly. 11/5 shape with respectable movement.
Changeup:  75-76 mph, Still developing feel for the offering, having a tendency to bury the pitch.
Future Role: Has starter frame with a lower effort delivery. How changeup develops will likely determine future role.
