Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Body Type: 6-foot 160-pound prospect with room to add strength.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Slower tempo working through a chest high lift. Efficient lower half finishing slightly closed at foot contact. Uses a short arm action working through a ¾ slot.
Fastball: 70-72 mph fastball was mostly straight working on a downward plane.
Curveball: 61-64 mph curveball shows developing depth with a near 12/6 shape.
Changeup: 63-66 mph changeup is thrown with good arm speed. Shows slight fade to the arm side, pitch has slight cutting action when thrown glove side.
Pitchability: Ability to work the fastball to both sides of the plate. Solid feel for both secondary offerings as he showed he can land both pitches for strikes.
Role:
1/21/19 Body Type: 6-foot 160-pound prospect with room to add strength.
Swing Mechanics: Balanced, open stance. Uses a back load with hands during aggressive strike forward.
Hit: Downhill, compact stroke. Athletic kid with some strength. Would like to see him add some loft to swing so those low line drives/ground balls can find the gaps. Has all the natural tools to hit, showing a fast bat with heavy hands through contact.
Power: 74 mph exit velocity. Should grow into gap abilities.
Offensive Projection: Multiple Roles.
Run: 8.05 60-yard dash.
Field: Rangy infielder with fluid actions. Plays under control too and through.
Throw: 70 mph arm strength across the infield. High-¾ right-hander with more strength to come.
Defensive Projection: 3B/2B.
1/15/18
Ran a 8.37 60-yard dash. In the infield he plays with fluidity and quiet feet. Plays low through the baseball, fielding out in front of his body. Arm is clean and projects for more strength as he matures physically. Presently topped at 71 mph across the diamond. Ball skills are developing. A right-handed hitter that starts in an athletic setup. Lower half is aggressive and creates a ton of energy when weight shift is on time. Hands stay simple prior to launching the bat through the zone on a slightly downhill plane. Ball comes off well, especially to pull side where he showed the ability to turn on the baseball with authority. Top exit velocity was 73 mph. On the mound the right-hander has a slower paced delivery that requires some effort. Uses a chest high leg lift prior to his drop and drive load. Arm travels through a near over the top slot, creating downhill plane on his 70-72 mph fastball. Primary secondary offering was the 11/5 shaped breaking ball. Carver is still developing feel for the pitch that showed gradual action at 58-60 mph.
