2/15/21

JT Popick: 2B/OF, (2022) Louisville, OH. 6-foot, 165-pound athletic frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 91 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a controlled load, then used a small leg kick. Bat speed was quick, used an upward swing plane and high finish. Solid in the infield, recorded a position velocity of 83 mph; had a clean exchange, soft hands, and rhythmic footwork. Solid in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 86 mph; shows a natural exchange, soft hands, and consistent feet. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Used a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. Clocked a time of 7.13 in the 60-yard dash.

2/15/20

2/15/20 Position Player
Hit: Improved at the plate since we saw him in winter of 2018. Smooth mover with a slightly downhill path to contact. Natural tools are more than serviceable. Showed the ability to use all fields.
Power: 77 mph tee exit velocity. Balanced combination of strength and speed to hands.
Offensive Projection: TBD. Has grown quite a bit over the past few seasons and I’d expect that trend to continue.
Field: Versatile defender that can play in the dirt and the grass at an above average clips. Actions are fluid at both spots. I’d say he’s a bit more advanced in the infield but with his ball skills it’s likely because he’s gotten more reps there. Should be a viable option at both.
Throw: 75 mph arm strength across the diamond and 80 mph arm strength to home plate.
Defensive Projection: UTL.

2/15/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Cleaner delivery. Moves well out there. Position background shows with mobility/athleticism.
Fastball: 73-76 mph. Mostly true through the zone. Occasional arm side action.
Curveball: 62-65 mph. 11/5 shaped offering with gradual break to it. Should sharpen up as velo jumps.
Changeup: 62-64 mph. Developing third option.

2/4/18
5-foot-7, 120 pound two way athlete performed both in the infield and outfield at the event. As an infielder, Popick will be aided by creating more fluidity to his actions. This will aid his overall quickness and ability to consistently play through the ball. His arm was average at 60 mph for his class. In the OF, he appeared more comfortable. Fields the ball to the side of his body and creates momentum with top velocity of 72 mph. Displayed good energy at both positions, but projects better as an outfielder at this stage. While hitting, Popick had a level bat path making consistent, solid contact. He recorded a 72 mph exit velo. If he can get more rotation out of his hips allowing for his back leg to fire with greater effort, his bat speed and power will increase. Smaller build but brings good energy.
