5-foot-11, 210-pound prospect with strong, physical frame. Looks the part of a catcher and had a 2.09-2.19 pop time. Starts in an athletic stance and showed a quick, fluid exchange getting throws off in a timely manner with accuracy. Footspeed was above average providing efficient footwork allowing his body to get in a powerful throwing position. Schmidt had good throwing mechanics along with a short, quicker arm action at 73 mph.  His swing utilizes a leg kick which helps transfer weight through the baseball. Ball sounds different coming off his bat. Uphill path with serious power in his swing. Top exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee.

Behind the plate, he utilizes his strong lower half to get his body turned. Brings the ball up to the ear smoothly with a quick transfer. Throws downhill with average arm strength. At the plate he starts in an athletic setup. Strength and bat speed are obvious in his swing. A middle of the lineup guy with the present ability to leave the park.
