8/15/23

Cape CodComing off a freshman season in which he had a 4.15 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 30.1 innings as Ohio State’s primary closer, Beidelschies opened eyes even wider with his performance over the summer. He had a 3.62 ERA and a 31-to-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 22.1 innings. From a three-quarters release, which creates a bit of a crossfire effect for righthanded batters, Beidelschies has a firm fastball at 91-93 mph, touching as high as 95 mph this summer, but he also leans heavily on a pair of secondary pitches, a slider and a changeup that both sit in the low-to-mid 80s. The lefty’s strike-throwing over the summer was a revelation, as a rate of 6.2 walks per nine innings in the spring dropped to 3.2 per nine innings over the summer. How much of that was a progression in his skills versus the lack of fear of hard contact with wood bats will have a lot to do with how he performs in 2024.

2/20/22

Ohio State Commit, 6-foot-3, 215-pound. Solid on the mound, showed a loose clean arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with consistent quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point with downhill shoulders. Lands soft with balanced finish. Sat with his fastball at 89-91 mph. Has slight running action. (Max spin 2296; Avg 2133). His 1/7 curveball (71-72) showed slurvey action. (Max spin 2032; Avg 1850). His changeup (74-76) has fading action. Threw a 2/8 slider (77-79) with late tight action. (Max spin 2167; Avg 2154).

7/21/20

Hit: Simple/efficient stroke from the left side. Ball really comes off well when squared. Generated true ball flight to the middle with his loudest pop to pull.

Throw: Clean arm with more than enough strength for the position.
Defensive Projection: 1B.

Scouting Notes: Two-way talent. Live arm that projects to add velocity to his current fastball up to 84mph. Complements the heater with a sharp, sweeping breaking ball with quality action across the zone. Stuff is quality. Definite guy to follow.
