Matthew Hartness: SS/2B, (2022) St Xavier, OH. 6-foot-2, 165-pound athletic frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 91 mph. Begins in a wide athletic stance with a smooth quick load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed was average, and had a level swing plane. Athletic while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 84 mph; had soft hands, athletic footwork, and a clean exchange. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Arm action was quick.
2/22/20
2/22/20 Position Player Hit: Smooth, athletic loader that remains under control throughout swing process. Lower half is efficient, creating both energy and balance at foot strike. Path works and he has feel for contact. Line drive swinger that can spray the ball around the yard. Power: 93mph exit velo with a max distance of 273 feet. Offensive Projection: Line drive gap hitter. Field: Athletic footwork in the infield with room to develop. When he stays under control, his glove looks reliable and his arm looks strong. Throw: 81mph infield velo. Defensive Projection: SS once he gets a better feel for his body control.
7/09/19
Body Type: 6-foot-2, 150-pound thin and athletic frame.
Swing Mechanics: Simple load with smooth movements. Hands stay loose and loaded through contact.
Hit: Downhill bat path with a backside approach. Stays inside the baseball well, and produces backspin to the opposite field. Power: Line drive guy who should grow into gap abilities. 75 mph off the bat in BP. Offensive Projection: Table setter with much more to come as he fills out very projectable frame. Field: Worked out at multiple positions in the infield. Played with controlled actions/tempo. Frame/skill set plays on the left side of the infield. Throw: High-3/4 righty with above average arm strength. Ball comes out well. Defensive Projection: 3B/SS.
