1/21/19
Body Type: 6-foot-1 165- pound prospect. Thin build with ability to still add muscle and strength.
Swing Mechanics:
Taller stance before getting into his leg kick movement with lower half. Hands show minimal back load before launch.
Hit:
Balanced stroke with downhill tendencies. Efficient swing in general that is a bit quicker than it is physical at this stage. Worked through a middle-away approach in BP, showing natural backspin abilities to the oppo gap.
Power:
82 mph exit velocity. Line drive swinger with gap abilities.
Offensive Projection:
Multiple Roles.
Run:
7.38 60-yard dash.
Field:
Quick feet with the ability to make plays on the move. Athleticism shows out there. Graded out as an above average defender in general.
Throw:
Showed 75 mph arm strength across the infield.
Defensive Projection:
TBD.

1/21/19 Pitching
Body Type: 6-foot-1 165- pound prospect. Thin build with ability to still add muscle and strength.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Threw from a ¾ arm slot with a quick, clean arm action. Overall an athletic, dynamic delivery.
Fastball: 78-81 mph fastball was mostly true but did show a sinking action at times.
Curveball: 68-71 mph breaking ball showed a tumbling type action with average spin but did show decent depth at times.
Changeup: 71-72 mph changeup was pretty much true through the zone.
Pitchability: Athleticism in the delivery lends itself to Toopes being a strike thrower. Particularly with his fastball and breaking of which he has the best command for of his three pitches.
Role: With his present velocity and his breaking ball being the better of the two secondary offerings, Toopes projects as more of a bullpen arm.
