6-foot-3, 192-pound athletic frame with still some projection left. Infielder shows average actions that can improve his footwork transitioning from catch to throw as he has small crow hop. Uses a clean short arm action coming from ¾ slot reaching a top velocity of 78 mph on his throws. Left-handed hitter starts from a balanced set up, uses a big leg kick for added power, hands back to shoulder trigger, shows pull power, and showed the ability to go opposite field with some pop during two game at bats. Top exit velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 4.53 down the line. On the mound he starts from the stretch, using average armspeed coming from an over the top arm angle. Did a good job of locating his fastball using both sides of the plate at 79-82 mph, his curveball broke at a 12/6 plane with good depth to it at 67-68 mph.
8-15-2018: Physical presence at six-foot-four, 220 pounds. Large frame with present strength. Defensive actions have some effort at third base. Might be better suited for first. Needs power from batting practice to transfer to the game. Has an easy swing from the left side with bat speed. Keeps upper body compact and utilizes strong/quick wrists to generate pull-side power. Pitch recognition needs to improve. Production hasn’t quite matched overall potential at this point but there’s enough physical talent to make Gray worth a follow. (D Jurik)
