4/2/17 - 6-foot-3, 220-pounds, solid frame for the right-handed hitting catcher. Mather hits from wide stance, can collapse on back side at times, with much more he can generate from strong lower half, looks to drive ball in the air as hands start low and work up in load, room to connect his swing with his strength and simplify. Behind the dish, catches the ball from clean setup, transfer and footwork can be cleaned up with room to take few ticks off pop time. Upside with the strength Mather has.
3/05/16
Big body and frame for 2018 grad at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. Ran a 5.22 40-yard dash with regular effort. At the plate, balanced setup, hands start up with small stride and not much load to trigger, can get long with bat path, dives into ball. A lot more there with some weight transfer and being able to incorporate his size and strength. Showed some feel for hand eye, the hands worked, exit velocity was 73 mph and he should see that climb with some minor adjustments. Defensively, worked as first baseman and catcher. Across the diamond was clocked at 66 mph and from behind the dish was 63 mph. Arm was short, 3/4 slot from the infield, feet and approach were fine at first. Behind the plate can work on footwork and becoming more connected and quicker with body and actions. Hands worked receiving the baseball. Big strong 2018 grad and with development and reps should see improvements in his numbers over the season. We like the frame and what could be.
