A big, physical two-way player who opted to stay off the mound during the first showcase of the year, Komonen passes the eye test and has the room to add more size and strength. At the plate, Komonen is fundamentally sound, has loose hands and shows some gap power to his pull side. The right-handed batter starts off from a narrow open stance, uses a quiet leg kick load and drives hands quickly through the zone generating good bat speed with an uppercut in his finish. Shows athleticism and good timing in the box with the ability to develop more power as he gets stronger. Have seen arm stronger in the past from the outfield, still shows feel and ability to play a corner position. A two-way prospect with a great frame, and chance for the bat to play up.
At 6-foot-1, 185-pounds Komonen meets the eye test with strength to game and ability to add more. At the plate, starts slightly open with toe turn to load, hands back in good position to create torque in swing. Upright at contact with looseness in hands, power to pull side as he doubled in game action, more in the swing to come, exit velocity was 82 mph. Defensively, was clean in the outfield, reads ball well, short action in the back and was accurate with carry, top velocity was 79 mph. On the mound, Komonen showed body control and ability to repeat delivery. Regular effort from 3/4 arm slot, run on fastball that was 80 mph, curveball showed 11/5 shape with sharpness at the end when down, changeup was 67-69 mph, mixed all three pitches in his inning of work, threw strikes, body and actions make Komonen a legit two-way prospect.
