Smith’s metrics continue to jump off the page as far as 2028 prospects are concerned. The 6-foot, 150-pound Barrie product reached 84.6mph with the fastball, living 83-84mph on the day and flashing improvement on the curveball & changeup from the fall. It’s easy to project more velocity as Elijah grows into the tall, athletic frame. On the other side of the ball, Smith reached 89.3mph with the exit velocity, living on the barrel with some elevation. Intriguing defender as well, with a strong run tool for the class and an outfield velocity of 86mph. With an abundance of physical talent, watch for Smith to really take off as he grows into the frame.
2024 Toronto Fall ID
Smith came into the event relatively unknown to our staff but made some noise quickly as he flashed some quality metrics for his age, especially with the arm. Smith started his day on the mound where he sat 81-83 T83.9 with the fastball and paired it with a vertical breaking ball at 70-72mph and changeup at 76-77mph. At the dish, the right-handed hitter has development to come but it’s a line-drive approach that utilized the middle of the field for a peak exit velocity of 81.8mph and distance of 280ft. He also ran a 7.27 60-yard dash and was up to 80mph from the outfield.
