Cooney has an all-around impressive skill set and the physical tools to impact the game in a lot of ways. The Oregon commit has athletic actions both defensively and at the plate. Shows a loose, easy barrel and quick hands. Uses a short, controlled forward move while keeping weight centered. Allows hands to work easily and creates a whippy swing thru the zone. Moves well thru his core to create bat speed with minimal effort. On the mound, the arm is short and compact. Pumping FBs in the 84-86 range with an above average SL that he shows consistent feel for. Has smooth, rhythmic actions throughout delivery. Short, direct stride keeps him in his legs and helps him to stay on time with his arm path.
