5/9/18 - Shorter, compact frame with above average present strength. At the plate, he is having a breakout year hitting .383 for the Hawkeyes with 17 doubles and 9 home-runs (.654 SLG%) and 43 RBI’s, with an OBP% of .490 tallying 27 walks and 10 HBP with only 22 strikeouts. The right-handed hitter is upright at the plate in an open stance with easy rhythm in hands. Balanced stride inline to pitcher with short hand load; Pull approach, looks to elevate the baseball. Relatively short to contact; he still produces solid pop to the pull-side of the field while routinely making hard contact. Behind the plate he shows quickness and flexibility. Has sure hands with the ability to receive and hold pitches in thezone. Blocks well with ability to deaden ball in front and is athletic in the recovery. Shows average arm action and carry on throws, but is routinely on the bag with above average accuracy. Cropley is an attractive option as a senior sign, shows leadership qualities, has a solid track record, has continued to improve offensively, and shows ability to handle a pitching staff. Most likely will be selected within the top 10 rounds as a bonus pool saving senior prospect.
