Brodie Johnston (‘24, Boyd Buchanan) A 2024 Prep Baseball Super 60 participant and the number 4 ranked ‘24 in TN was on full display on friday against Greeneville. He drove in 6 runs on 3 hits including a no doubt HR to left center, he also had a double in the contest. The uber athletic shortstop glides to balls on either side, and would show off a plus arm across the field, A Vanderbilt, Johnston presents some impressive metrics that include 88 infield velo, 82.4 bat speed, the list goes on. One to watch going into this year's MLB draft as he looks to lead his squad into the playoffs.
7/21/20

The only ’24 bat in attendance improved on all his numbers since we last saw him in January.  6’0, 170-pounder features a medium, athletic frame w/ some well-proportioned lean strength, advanced physicality for a ’24, intriguing physical projection as he continues to work to fill out his frame.  Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, crouched stance w/ quiet hands into shift of weight, toe tap and proper load.  Lot of moving parts in load, but head remains still and was able to find a clean single in game with a hard line drive up the middle.  Flashes ability to stay balanced, some extension through the zone.  All fields approach w/ lot of line drives when right.  Intriguing offensive skill-set for a young player.  On the dirt, shows active feet w/ solid hands, flashing quick release w/ projectable carry to target arm strength w/ some effort in the throw. On the mound, the righty pitched from the stretch only into an OTT release.  Clean, repeatable mechanics w/ some downhill plane.  Straight FB.  Tight CB flashes proper shape w/ short downer action, gets slurvy at times.  Slows arm down slightly on CH w/ short fade and sink.

1/19/20

5-foot-10, 150-pound  lean frame. At the plate, the switch hitter clocked an exit velocity of 82 mph. Started in a crouched stance, had a low load and used a toe tap to start his swing. Has a level swing plane, as well as quick bat speed and high finish. Up the middle approach. In the infield, showed his ability to throw 81 mph across the diamond; had athletic footwork, a clean exchange and sure hands. Laterally, movements were athletic. Showed a long arm action and a high ¾ slot. He clocked a time of 7.92 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, he has an over-the-top angle and a short arm action. He is a tall-and-fall type pitcher and uses some effort. Has a tall balance point and uphill shoulders. His fastball was 73-75 mph. Curveball (67-69 mph) had the most depth when he located it down by the hitter’s knees. His changeup (68-70) shows sinking action and some control.
