Cape Cod: Obee has been an intriguing prospect since his arrival at Duke two years ago, but that potential has not yet been expressed in production for the Blue Devils. He has been a part-time player in each of his two seasons at Duke, and though his numbers ticked up on a rate basis from 2022 to 2023, he hasn’t yet broken out. This summer, Obee showed once again why his talent is tantalizing. His defense in center field stands out right away. He’s light on his feet and is a plus-plus runner who also has good feel for route-running on balls in the gap and in front of him when he has to charge hard. He’s less of a finished product offensively, but he showed signs of progress with Harwich. He swings and misses quite a bit—his 40 strikeouts were the most on the club—but he has above-average raw power when he does make contact, which helped him accumulate a team-leading 10 extra-base hits, including five home runs. Even when he makes soft contact, he always has a chance to get on base, given that he routinely turns in run times around four seconds flat to first base.
