2023 LHP Ethan McElvain (Summit HS, TN), a Vanderbilt recruit, started for Knights Baseball 15U Platinum and nearly went the distance, logging six innings and facing three batters in the seventh. He walked three and hit a batter, while allowing just one hit and striking out seven. He has a projectable frame with broad shoulders and long legs. Pitching out of a 3/4 slot with solid arm speed, his fastball ranged from 83-87. The curveball had slurvy shape at 72-74 and he pushed a changeup, but it showed solid arm-side action at 77.

8/03/19

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound southpaw had a busy summer pitching with USA baseball. McElvain, a switch hitting 1B/left-handed pitcher, was most utilized on the mound, but also showed advanced approach and feel for the barrel while at PBR Jr Future Games.  The lefty was up to 87, sitting 82-86 complimented w/ a sharp curveball at 69-73.  His future should be bright on the mound, but certainly a two-way impact player. Committed to Vanderbilt in October.
