5'11, 165-pound, LHH hits from a balanced and slightly open stance and begins his swing from a very athletic looking position, uses a very abbreviated leg trigger, a short stride, and a rhythmic lowering of the hands to initiate his load.  Lower half rarely ever drives all the way through as a few of his swings even finished with his back foot still pointed toward the third base dugout, back side works hard and allowed him to hit a lot of line drives to left field and center field throughout BP, continued his opposite field approach throughout game play, played quicker than his 60 time suggests.  Defensively, showed good footwork and soft hands as he played through the ball and produced a quick exchange and release through a short arm action and a high ¾ slot, is a flipper, accurate throws with a lot of carry allow him to make a lot of different plays from the SS position.

5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitter took an impressive round of BP. Hits from a balanced setup, a slight leg kick and aggressive stride initiate the swing, attacks the ball aggressively, showed a very noticeable increase in bat speed from previous event, swing path produced consistent line drives with a gap to gap approach. Hands are soft and works fluidly through the baseball with good footwork, high-3/4 release produced much better arm strength from previous event and very accurate throws, good body control and ability to throw on the move. Chastain has made very good strides in his game.

11/1/14 - 5-foot-11, 160 pound left-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, smooth load with a short stride, though lower half tends to get over the front side he uses a short swing with a slight uphill path, line drive hitter with fluid rhythm, 71 mph tee exit velocity, showed ability to go to the opposite field during batting practice round, 4.85 home to first time, finished game play with an 0-for-3 effort. Though arm velocity was 68 mph and needs to improve Chastain was accurate with throws to the bag using short arm action and 3/4 arm slot, with a quick, clean exchange. If he can make the necessary strength gains and improvements to overall game, he will be a prospect to follow coming out of the 2017 class.
