6-4, 170 pound long and lanky righty shows a lot of projection w/ present velo. Full windup w/ no hand rhythm, resulting in hands breaking at the belt (breaks higher out of the stretch, resulting in easier and more consistent timing). Front foot driven, back leg along for ride. Gets downhill well w/ angle. FB flashes run. CB is a medium 12-6 downer that flashes tight rotation, late break. DNS CH. Around the zone w/ feel for CB in situations. Southern Illinois commit.
10/15/16 - Max FB: 85, FB: 81-84, CB: 68-69, CH: 72,
6-foot-4, 170-pound, RHP brought another solid performance to the Border Battle Games, as he continued to turn heads with his consistent success, long and lanky build with a very high ceiling, moves with good tempo and a sense of confidence on the mound, long arm action is loose and comes through a high ¾ slot with ease, didn’t have his best stuff we have seen but showed command and continued improvement. Fastball was mostly straight with some run, curveball showed 12/6 to 11/5 shape with a good bit of movement, changeup showed some fade. Steidl was able to record 4 strikeouts in his 2 innings of work without allowing a run or a hit. He committed to Southern Illinois University shortly after this performance.
7/27/16 - Max FB: 85, FB: 83-85, CB: 70-71, CH: 72-73,
6-foot-4, 170-pound, RHP is a tall, lanky, and athletic presence on the mound that commands immediate attention, smooth and connected motion gathers at the top before really coming hard toward the plate, uses his length and athleticism to get way down the hill and release the pitch as close to the hitter as possible, pitches with a purpose, stays mostly in line but will occasionally fall slightly toward the 1B side on his finish, long and loose arm action comes through a high ¾ release point and comes at the plate on a downward angle. Fastball showed good life with some late run, curveball showed 11/5 shape and is consistently thrown for strikes, changeup is a good change of pace with a little fade at the end. Steidl had 3 K’s in his 2 innings and earned himself a spot on Tennessee’s Future Games Team with his performance.
6/14/16 - Max FB: 86, FB: 84-86, 74-74 Slider
6'4, 170-pound, RHP uses a big rocker step and the raising of his hands to begin his collected delivery, normal leg lift leads to a near pause in the middle of his wind up that helps him to gather himself before exploding toward home plate, long and lanky build helps Steidl get down the hill and much closer to home plate, long and loose arm action comes from a high ¾ arm slot and produces a lot of pitches down in the zone, ability to really get on hitters was evident in game play when striking out 3 hitters in two innings. Fastball showed some slight run and was very effectively down in the zone the majority of his outing, breaking ball acted more like a slider and had some late break on its 10/4 movement. Steidl impressed throughout his outing as he was able to throw strikes low in the zone and keep hitters off balance with a breaking ball for strikes. His combination of length and athleticism will make him a prized arm in the 2018 class.
