8/11/16 - Strong hands with good bat speed at the plate. He hit a couple balls hard in his at-bats and made a strong play, going up the middle before making a good, clean transfer and strong throw on the move.

10.13.16
6-foot, 187-pound frame. The shortstop shows advanced defensive actions with great rhythm through all types of ground balls. Good hip mobility, plays low advanced glove actions. The arm strength has excellent carry and accuracy with a quick, midline exchange and elbow dominant arm action. The right-handed hitter has a simple set-up with a short, smooth hand path. He was 1-for-4 on the night with a base hit to center field crisply hit on the barrel.

8/19/19: With a well-rounded toolset, Oviedo grew on scouts as the summer progressed, saving his best for the playoffs. His .345/.429/.379 playoff slash was markedly better than his regular season (.252/.356/.354). Showed near average raw power with above average bat speed. During game action he produced hard contact up the middle and to his pull side. The timing of his swing is mainly geared to the fastball. Defensively, he has good lateral quickness for average range, but struggles at times with the ball to his right. With near average arm strength, it plays down a bit as he doesn’t stay on top of the ball for 4-seam carry to his target. He’s an average runner underway, but below down the line and isn’t much of a threat to steal (three in the Cape and five in two years at TCU). Although he doesn’t garner the same draft hype as he did coming out of high school in 2017, Oviedo will still get plenty of consideration for the Top 10 rounds this June. He is transferring to Oral Roberts this fall after two years in Fort Worth with the Horned Frogs. (Seifert)

8/8/18: 6’0, 205 pounds. Medium sized build with the frame to add more upper body strength. Oviedo is a quick athlete on defense with clean actions. Comes through the ball easily while fielding with a smooth transition into his throws. Arm works quickly and shows strength from various release points. Struggled at the plate this spring and summer but the actions are there. Balanced stroke with quick hands and the ability to drive the ball pull-side. Biggest issue I saw during a three-strikeout performance was identifying spin out of hand. Oviedo is still young, given his athleticism and overall body control, we should see some offensive improvements from him in the future. (D Jurik)
