Winquest

Cape Cod- Winquest is another power pitcher who has been held back by high walk rates in his career, but he put together a very strong summer for Chatham, posting a 2.79 ERA and a 22-11 K-BB mark in 19.1 innings, mostly in relief. Thick-chested and strong with a medium-high waist and a medium broad build, Winquest reminds Holliday of John Wetteland. He features a simple, balanced delivery with some effort in his finish. He uses a simple step-in motion and works straight to the plate with good drive and decent tempo, though he can get ahead of his arm at times, causing drag and arm-side misses. His fastball can be electric at 93-97 mph with above-average spin rates (2400s). His second pitch is a 12-to-6 curveball with solid depth but fringe-average bite at 74-76 mph (with below-average spin rates in the 2200s). He showed a changeup and a slider in between innings in our look; the changeup was firm and straight, and the slider had some short tilted action. He held his fastball velocity over three innings, but his execution was inconsistent. Winquest rebuffed some overtures to sign as a nondrafted free agent in favor of returning to school for a fourth season, hoping to build upon the gains he made this summer.
