Athletic 6-foot, 190-pound frame with strength in the lower half. Sowell posted the top catcher velocity of the day at 78 mph with carry and made low throws around the bag. His pop times ranged from 2.03-2.12, he stays low in his strong legs and gets leg drive and direction from his quick footwork. He showed quiet body actions and received balls well during the bullpen session, and kept tough pitches in the strike zone. The right-hander starts in a slightly open stance, takes a long stride back to parallel, has some quick-twitch in his backside drive, rhythm and looseness in his hands, excellent balance, and his barrel whips through the zone with some fast bat speed; posted 86 mph exit velo off the tee. Sowell ran a 7.31 laser-timed 60.
