Lefty Jared Hart is the new Redbird Ace for Friday nights. After 14 relief appearances to begin the season the fourth-year junior received his first start against Valparaiso. Armed with an 88-91 mph fastball and an above average slider in the low-80s Hart pitched six shutout innings and allowed just a single hit. From a three-quarter slot he spotted his fastball in and out especially well. Super competitive, Hart is 2-0 with a 1.37 ERA this season. In 26.1 IP he has allowed 21 hits, walked five and struck out 30.
Senior southpaw Jared Hart has shown great improvement since my first look during the summer of 2020 as he's progressed from thrower to pitcher. He now sits 88-90 with a hard sweeping slider and above average changeup. He struck out five of the six hitters he faced during my recent look.
An aggressive, high effort left-hander with good pitchability, Hart runs his fastball to the plate in the 85-90 mph range, mostly sitting 85-86. From a three-quarter slot there is more angle than wiggle to his fastball, but he pitches inside to right-hander hitters well and misses barrels. He flashes a firm 76-80 mph changeup with good arm side action at a 1800-1960 spin rate. His most effective secondary offering is a low-70s curveball that he is able to manipulate to a slurve-shape into the mid-70s. This summer he has struck out 15 in 10 IP with only two walks.
