Cape Cod: The son of former major league great Jeff Kent, Kaeden has a chance to grow into an offensive second baseman like his old man, or perhaps a third baseman. His defensive home remains in question at this stage, but he has a better arm than his dad, which should play at second or third. He also saw action this summer at first base, where he’s a merely adequate defender. He’ll need plenty of reps to find a home at any defensive position, but his bat is very promising. After hitting .265/.330/.373 in 94 plate appearances as a freshman this spring, Kent hit .329 with two homers, seven doubles and 22 RBIs in a team-high 149 at-bats this summer for Chatham. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has a loose, whippy swing from the left side and is just starting to grow into some power. With a short stride and an upright setup, Kent made progress this summer using the whole field better, doing a good job staying back and relying upon his fast hands to drive the ball with more authority. With a low hand setup, Kent has a simple move to the ball and should hit for a high average as his collegiate career unfolds, with more power to come.
Kent once again is the anchor up the middle for Lake Travis. The Aggie signee provides ample experience and some toughness to the top of the order and seems to do a lot of the little things right as the leader on the field. In the box Kent offers the ability to put together a tough at bat as well as drive the ball for extra bases when given the opportunity. On defense, he communicates well with both the other infielders as well as the arms on the mound. Kent shows the ability to move in both directions and throw from multiple angles across the diamond. There is no doubt Kent is the heartbeat of the Lake Travis squad this season.
