Sutherland has a lean, athletic frame at 6-foot, 168-pounds, and does a little bit of everything on the field well, from playing both infield and outfield, to pitching. The right-handed hitter posted a top exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee, and showed a line drive approach during BP. Loads back as he triggers his hands into a front arm bar, short stride, lands balanced as his hands work through the zone on a flat path. In the outfield, he plays through the ball with the type of footwork and glove action that most infielders have, and threw with with a top velocity to the dish of 77 mph. On the infield, he has a quick first step and shows lateral range. Able to make glove play to his left with a clean exchange to the midline. Has a feel for throwing from different slots and on the run. Accurate arm across the diamond with a top velocity of 75 mph. On the mound, the right-hander works from a high slot with a high front side, clean arm swing, with a max effort, tilt-and-topple delivery. Fastball flashes tilt at 76-78 mph, topping out at 79 mph. Spun his curveball with 12/6 shape and depth at 68-71, while his changeup had good late depth at 69-70.
