We wrote about the sophomore after an intrasquad, and he made another jump in this start we saw. His fastball was 84-86 T88 with easy life and minimal effort. He has much more room for growth physically and with the low effort delivery, it's not hard to imagine some big velo spikes down the road. He also showed a CB that when he threw with aggression had the shape and bite needed to be a put away pitch. He also has great feel for his change up. After this outing, James committed to TCU.
The sophomore RHP really caught my eye on this day. Last summer we saw him in the low 80’s, and in this setting he was 85-86 T87. His frame has tons of filling out to do, and I would expect even more jumps in his velocity as the year goes on. He has clean mechanics that he repeats well and shows a potential + CH and an avg. breaking ball. James will be fun to watch over the next 2 ½ years as he continues to fill out.
