A former star quarterback at Porter HS, TX and two-way talent as a freshman at DBU, Russell shifted full-time to the mound halfway through this past fall. Based upon one quick look at Frisco, it was a great decision. He’s a strike-thrower with power stuff. Athletic-bodied at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, Russell came out of the DBU pen on Thursday night to lock down a 3-2 W. Filling up the zone with a 92-93 mph fastball and hard 80-81 curveball, he also wiped out the Tigers last batter with a plus slider at 84 mph. He is eligible by age for this summer’s draft.
