Open athletic stance at the plate and hands stay inside well. Schmitt has a short path to the ball with more of a contact driven swing. Has doubles power and the ability to hit for high average. Schmitt has been hitting in the three hole and with his contact rate and hard hit ball percentage Schmitt is going to have a chance to drive in a lot of runs for St. Chris this year, especially with how often O'Ferrall gets on base in the leadoff. Long term I think Schmitt is a nice offensive piece at the next level for Randolph-Macon and has some positional versatility that could see time in corner outfield and behind the plate.

The recent Randolph-Macon commit had a strong day. Behind the plate the arm strength is average, but showed solid blocking skills and leadership for a somewhat inexperienced Saints team. At the plate he found some loud barrels, but did not have much to show for it. Lined out to second base in his first at bat. Has a chance to have a big year for the Saints, as they will look to lean on him a little more for run production.

Schmitt is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has good strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, two tap stride on line, smooth load down. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill line drive swing with strength at contact and some extension through the ball, showed a pull preference with the ability to use the whole field, natural loft in his swing and some power present to pull side, exit velocity was 87. Behind the plate, very quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 72 and pop times 1.96-2.06. Showed some accuracy on his throws. Ran a 7.11 60 yard dash.
