Matthews is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill swing path with some strength at contact point and extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, generates some natural loft and has some power present already, exit velocity was 87. In the outfield, quick feet, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with soft hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, position velocity was 78. Ran a 4.37 home to first. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, longer loose arm action with normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly downhill and on line, lands slightly open with a bit of a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 69-73, with some late armside run and heavy sink.
