Freshmen Free Central: Outfielder Breakdown

In late February, over 80 players from all corners of DC and Virginia descended on RockIt Sports in Richmond, Virginia for the Freshmen Free Central, our second event of 2021. Today, we continue our breakdown of the event with the primary outfielders:

Will Blatt OF / OF / Benedictine College Prep, VA / 2024

Blatt is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, loads down and back. Hips rotate with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, level line drive swing path,gets extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, some power present in the alleys with more to come, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 75. Ran a 3.85 home to first.

 

Elijah Day LHP / OF / CVHAA, VA / 2024

Day is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, strong at contact point and gets extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, has a chance to grow into some gap power soon, exit velocity was 83. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with soft hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, position velocity was 77. Ran a 4.25 home to first.

 

Andy Fronczek OF / LHP / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2024

Fronczek is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill swing path with strength at contact point and extension through the ball, showed a pull approach with the ability to elevate that ball that way and drive it, exit velocity was 90. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, position velocity was 76. Ran a 4.31 home to first.

 

Elijah Matthews OF / LHP / Lafayette , VA / 2024

Matthews is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill swing path with some strength at contact point and extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, generates some natural loft and has some power present already, exit velocity was 87. In the outfield, quick feet, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with soft hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, position velocity was 78. Elias McGavin OF / RHP / Edison , VA / 2024

McGavin is 6-0 with a lanky frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load down and back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, level line drive swing path, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 74. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands, works through exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 64. Ran a 4.60 home to first.

 

Matthew McGovern OF / SS / Thomas Dale, VA / 2024

McGovern is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, loads down and back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill swing path with some strength at contact point and extension through the ball, showed a pull approach, generates some natural loft and has some power present that way, much more to come as he fills out, exit velocity was 92. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action, position velocity was 84. Showed versatility taking balls in the infield as well. Ran a 3.90 home to first.

 

Parker McRay LHP / OF / Atlee, VA / 2024

McRay is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open balanced athletic stance, two touch stride on line, loads back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with some strength at contact point and extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, generates some natural loft in his swing, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 75. Ran a 4.14 home to first.

 

Barrett Motter OF / RHP / Prince Edward, VA / 2024

Motter is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a taller open balanced stance, short stride in place, short load back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a good approach, using the entire field, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with average hands, clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action, position velocity was 76. Ran a 4.33 home to first.

 

Luke Pierce RHP / OF / Patriot, VA / 2024

Pierce is 6-0 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load down and back to a wrap.
