5.17.17: Athletic projectable body. Hits from a square set up at the plate with close hands at chest level. Closes off slightly in load. Whips barrel through the zone with a shorter swing path and some extension through contact. Nice barrel control. Athletic in field, clean hands and quick exchange to release from the corner. Throws have carry across the diamond. Great athleticism still some untapped potential in the prospect.
3.19.16: Johnson is a very good defender at third that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action and above average arm strength. He has very good first step quickness and soft hands to go with a clean exchange. At the plate, Johnson hits from the left side and loads back into a slight arm bar with a stride forward. Johnson has good bat speed and a good lower half with balance as he works slightly uphill with his swing path, getting good extension through the ball. He showed a pull approach and has gap power to his pull side with the potential for more.
3.24.15: Johnson is an athletic infielder who hits from the left side. Defensively, he has great hands, good first step quickness and agility, and a very strong arm. At the next level, he has the ability and athleticism to excel defensively at all three infield spots. At the plate, Johnson has a short, simple stroke that currently generates gap power that could develop into home run power before he graduates. His third at-bat was the best on the day, as he was looking away and dropped the head of the bat hard on an inside fastball and lined a two-run double to right center. Johnson also got to face a few hitters on the mound, throwing with high effort from a high three-quarters slot. His fastball was 81-83 with some late arm side run and his breaking ball had 11/5 action, running 69-70.
2.22.15 Hit from an athletic/balanced stance. Smooth load back. Short stride with a leg kick. Outstanding balance. Took an advanced approach during the round with a very fluid rhythm. Was short to the ball with good extension. Gap-to-Gap swing with above average power. Hands were strong and quick. Had an explosive lower half. Had an Exit Velocity of 83 mph. In the field, threw from a over the top/high ¾ arm slot with a long, quick arm action. Throws were accurate and had carry. Was athletic and played through the ball. Footwork was quick and fluid. Hands were soft with quick/clean exchanges. Had a Positional Velocity of 79 mph.
