Cape Cod: Was a steady force over five starts, finishing with a 1.85 ERA and 0.99 WHIP before being selected by the Reds in the 14th Round of the 2022 MLB Draft and signing for $100,000. His low-90s fastball and downer curve kept hitters off-balanced throughout his 29.1 innings of work and helped him to 33 punchouts over that span. He projects as a middle-relief arm at the next level
7/20/21
Cape Cod- Lyons is an athletic righty with clean arm action to a three-quarters release. He repeated delivery and worked at 90-92 mph (2300-2400 rpm) with some ride up in the zone, but straight when in the zone. Lyons commanded his fastball to both sides and was especially effective going in to lefthanded hitters. He changed shapes on his breaker, mixing in a rolling 77-78 mph curveball as a show pitch, but he mostly went to an average 80-82 mph slider as his main breaking pitch. He also flashed an average cutter at 88-89. The sturdy 6-foot, 208-pounder posted good results in three appearances overall for Y-D, sporting a 2.40 ERA and a 16-6 K-BB mark in 15 IP.
3.7.16: Lyons has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action and a quick arm that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Lyons’ fastball had hard late run to it and sat at 85 for most of his outing. He showed a 12/6 curveball with sharp, late break that ran 74-75.
