Preseason All-State II

Oates is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open relaxed stance, short stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, quick to ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with strength at contact, gets more uphill to pull side, power to pull side present, exit velocity was 90. Behind the plate, firm receiver, quick into block, shows some sway. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters slot with a short arm action, velocity was 75 and pops were 2.10-2.18. Showed some accuracy on his throw downs. Showed versatility taking balls in the infield, where his arm was 76.

Preseason All-State II

Oates is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, loads hands back, hips rotate completely with some violence, has some balance during his swing. Longer path but quick to contact, quick bat, keeps hands inside ball, strong at contact point with extension, level path between the gaps gets uphill to pull side, swing has loft built in, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, power present with more in the tank, exit velocity was 88. In the infield, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and average hands. Works through ball during exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, free arm action, position velocity was 79.

Oates is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a tall open stance, leg kick stride on line, short load back, hips rotate completely, and he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, showed a pull preference with power potential, uphill swing path, strength at contact with extension, exit velocity was 86. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 72, pop times were 2.04-2.13 with some accuracy on his throws.

Freshman Free

Oates is 5-11 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap, good rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate fully with some explosion, some balance to swing as well. Gets barrel to ball quickly, bat has some quickness to it. Works slightly uphill, pull approach with extension to ball, can go with ball to middle of the field, has potential to develop power to pull side, exit velocity was 81. Behind the plate, gains ground during exchange, works through the ball to throw from a low three-quarters arm slot. Short quick arm action, ball has some carry, position velocity was 75, pop times were 2.16-2.22.

9.16.17:  Projectable athletic frame. Showed athleticism and a quick bat that is short to the ball with extension through it. Has serious power potential, especially to pull side, has easy doubles power already.
