Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Long athletic frame at 6-foot-3. Loose and free arm action from three-quarter slot. Fastball was 81-83 mph on the day with the spin rate generally ranging between 1900-2000. He showed ability to keep the fastball down in the zone and flashed some arm side run at times. Slider had tight 1/7 shape at 67-70 mph. The delivery is low effort and if the intent of the delivery picks up as he continues to grow into the frame Costin stands a real chance of making a nice velo jump. Costin moves well around the bag at first and has some pull side power potential in the swing, but I think long term he will mainly contribute on the mound.

Preseason All-State II
Projectable 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. On the mound he displays repeatable mechanics from the windup and the stretch. Higher balance point with hips and shoulders slightly uphill moving down the mound and hands break into a long loose arm action from a low three-quarter arm slot. Fastball was easy out of the hand and showed arm-side run at 77-79 mph and touching 82 mph. Displayed feel for a 65-69 mph changeup to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball had tight 1/7 shape with some late depth at 67-68 mph. At the plate Costin starts with a square upright stance and hands set back before moving into a slight arm bar to hit. Path is short to the ball and quick out of the zone with uphill tilt to the swing front foot lands closed and displayed some power potential to the pullside. Exit velocity of 90 mph. At first base feet worked on approach, glove presented out front, and it was a clean exchange to a long arm action from a three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 80 mph. Home-1st time was 4.44.
