Courchaine turned in a strong outing for Velocity Baseball during the second day of our PBR at The Rock 16u Championships. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander went the distance and struck out 10, walking just one on three hits total. Courchaine worked his fastball in the low-80s and mixed in a breaking ball with a short wrinkle in the low-70s, too.
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 6-0, 155-pounds.
Delivery: Drop/drive type pitcher. Uses some effort on the hill. Level shoulders, lands square. Falls off slightly towards 1B.
Arm Action: R/R. High 3/4 arm slot. Quick arm speed with long and loose actions.
FB: T83, 81-83 mph. Straight action FB showed some ASR. Thrown for strikes. T2038, 1974 average rpm.
CB: 73-74 mph. 11/5 shape with projectable actions. Thrown down in the zone. Good feel. T2108, 2086 average rpm.
CH: 77-77 mph. Thrown at FB arm speed. Flashed some sink and fade. T1735, 1666 average rpm.
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed pitcher/outfielder. Lean, athletic frame with room to mature. Started on the mound Friday against a talented ISA Stars Royal 15U team. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, above-average arm speed for age. Slight drop and drive delivery with a closed front side, showed a slide-step out of the stretch. Fastball sat 77-79 mph, touching 80, flashing arm-side run. Curveball played at 67-70 mph, 11/5 shape, gets around it. Changeup was 72-73 mph. Athleticism works in center field, too, as he showed big range and the ability to track balls down on several occasions.
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 5-foot-10, 155-pounds. Lean, athletic, thin frame.
Delivery: Staggered footing from the left edge of the rubber; side step to high knee lift, athletic balance point. Drops and drives with closed shoulders, lands closed, athletic finish.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm swing, loose, quick from high 3/4 slot.
FB: T81, 79-80 mph. Mostly straight; occasional slight run. Above-average carry through the zone for size/age.
CB: 65-67 mph. 11/5 shape with short wrinkle, gradual action.
CH: 73-75 mph. Mostly maintains arm speed; showed an ability to spot at the corners with hard, late fade/sink.
