Body: 5-11, 175-pounds. Athletic looking build throughout frame.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, crouched setup. Quick leg lift trigger into loud foot strike. Brings hands in during load. Vertical entry, Tight swing, lagging barrel. All fields. Feel for extension.
Power: 88.3 max exit velocity, averaged 82.5 mph. 295’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 82 mph.
Defense: Long actions, sits on fielding position, hands under center, chest up low field position.
Run: 7.44 runner in the 60.
Schmitting flashed above-average arm strength for his age on the mound. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound sophomore pumped his fastball at 79-82 mph with relative ease from a loose, quick arm slot. Schmitting is certainly worth keeping tabs on this spring and summer as we get into live gameplay.
