INF/RHP Simon Schmitz (Sparta High School, 2028): Schmitz presents an athletic, wiry 5-foot-11, 164-pound frame with notable strength. The right-handed hitter operates from an upright, smooth setup, delivering a swing that is well sequenced and fluid that allows him to consistently launch baseballs to all fields. He produced a 91 mph max EV and an 84.0 mph average EV, pairing those with a 69.4 mph average bat speed and 12.0 g of average rotational acceleration proving there is upside and louder EV’s coming in the future. A rangy defender with soft hands his throws were true with accuracy through first base. He showed off his athleticism in the 60 yard dash as he tied for the 2028 class lead with a 6.91-seconds run time. On the mound, the right-hander utilizes a rhythmic and fluid delivery working down the slope with a full arm action from a high-3/4 slot. His fastball sat in the upper 70s mph with an event-leading 19.4 inches of average induced vertical break. He paired the forward life fastball with a two plane breaking curveball out of the same window.

Schmitz measured a projectable and athletic, 5-foot-11, 158 pounds with plenty of room to add size and strength. He started his day by running the third fastest 60 yard time of the day with a 7.07 seconds sprint. He then showed solid feel for the barrel with a well-sequenced swing and was spraying the ball throughout his round. On the mound, he showed feel for three pitches for strikes with a clean and repeatable delivery. Schmitz is on our staff’s radar after his performance on Sunday.
