PBR CANADA MIZUNO PROSPECTS OF THE WEEK

British Columbia

Joey Marino RHP / OF / St. Ignatius, IL / 2018

Marino, a 5’11 165lbs MIF out of the Whalley Chiefs/Canes Canada was a standout in Panama City at PBR Spring Training showcasing his talent on both sides of the field. In the field the hands stand out with a quick transfer out of the glove as well as an arm with some carry behind it. Made some impressive plays up the middle to his glove side in Florida showing off his range. At the plate the swing is balanced and level with the ability to spray the ball to any parts of the field. Has some time to fill out the body and expect Marino to be a name to look out for as he continues to improve.

Atlantic

Logan Raftus C / 2B / Dartmouth , NS / 2022

Raftus, a 6’2 185lbs Montgomery College commit showcases strong tools behind the plate. The body stands out as a catcher with a built athletic frame. Raftus displays quick footwork, a clean transfer out of the glove and a pop time that has been up to 1.95 at The Maritime Games. At the plate the hands start high and Raftus gets on time with a short leg kick. The bat works short through the zone displaying a flat bat on contact. Will be an interesting watch this summer before entering his freshman season.

Ontario

Matthew Brown RHP / SS / Waterdown District, ON / 2024

Brown, a 6’4 186lbs RHP for the Ontario Blue Jays is a name to watch as one of the better arms in his class. On the mound there is a lot to like about Brown with his tall Lanky frame. The setup is clean with an aggressive push off of his back leg. Really gains ground with his long legs as he gets down the mound quick and effortless. The fastball which has been up to 89 Mph has some arm side run to it, a change up that lives down in the zone and a hard slider that is tough to read out of the hand. Was a standout at the OBJ Pitchers Scout Day and expect to continue to see Brown take big strides on the mound.

Alberta

Logan McMullen OF / Sundre, AB / 2022

McMullen, a 5’10 168lbs outfielder for the Calgary Bucks is an interesting name to look out for with speed that stands out in the outfield and on the base paths. In the outfield the arm is long with some carry behind his throws. Can cover a lot of ground with his speed and quick first step. At the plate the swing is loaded with a line drive approach to the pull side. Stays in his legs well with a wide balanced stride. Definitely a name to look out for schools interested in a speedy outfielder.

Quebec

Joshua Jones OF / TNXL Academy , QC / 2023

Jones, a 6’2 180lbs outfielder for Canes Florida Prime has looked impressive at the PBR Future games and with the Canadian Junior National team. In the field Jones looks smooth and at home in the outfield with good footwork and an arm that has been up to 86 Mph. At the plate the swing is smooth and relaxed with good tempo in his hands. Does not have to many moving parts in his swing. Has a line drive approach with ability to hit the ball to all parts of the field. College programs should look out for Jones as he has the potential to be a player that can make an impact in the lineup and in the field.
