New Year Open Preview: Quick Hits

As we continue to prepare and build for the first event of the 2018 season, the New Year Open, we take a quick look at what to expect and what could potentially take place in Burlington Ontario at Fieldhouse Athletics. The current number of participants is hovering right around 85 with the range from being from high school seniors to the young pups making their first appearance with PBR Ontario as high school freshman.

The day will run as our typical events have in the past as we kick it off with full 60’s with lasers for timing, then into offensive and defensive evaluations and finish the day with bullpens that will be off of well maintained and groomed dirt mounds. A few differences than our past events will be that we will split the position players up into groups, so infielders will complete all aspects of the day and then be free to go home. The outfielders and catchers will then arrive, go through their workouts and the day will be finished for them (them meaning infielders, catchers stay for pens). We then let the arms rip off 15-20 pitches to complete the day, with two-way players going first before pitcher only. Another difference is there will be more of an open area for BP, which is always nice for everyone to get a better look and feel, see some travel with the ball off the bat.

With spots filling up fast, this event is likely to sell out before the end of the weekend. To inquire more about the New Year Open please see HERE.

We now take a quick glimpse into some of the prospects who will be in attendance below.

QUICK HITS

One of the more exciting parts of the day is going to be the 60’s as there is some real players who can run in this group, led by uncommitted outfielder Ethan Pasco (video below) who plays in the Niagara region across the other side of the border. Our New York counterparts have seen Pasco absolutely motor and he is the prime candidate to throw up the quickest time on Monday. Not to be out done is Kieran Gagnon and Brandon Clarke, who will be right on Pasco’s tail, and it wouldn’t be a major shock if one of these guys has the best time of the day as well. Kenny Di Clemente will also be in the mix as the athletic 2019 grad poster a 6.75 in the fall of 2017.
