Alberta Insider: Top Uncommitted Class of 2018 Right-Handed Pitchers

Jared Caldwell RHP / SS / Bishop Grandin, AB / 2018

Scouting Report: At 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, Caldwell came armed with a heavy fastball as he was tied for the hardest pitch of the event at 84 mph. Caldwell has a large frame that could easily add more size to it in order to fill out his body and gain strength. Jared’s arm action was long but he was able to get downward plane on his ball due to good timing and his height. Caldwell had good feel for his changeup which showed good depth and also spun a tight slider that will improve with further repetition and intent. Overall a very intriguing follow with a very high upside.

Zachary Olson 1B / RHP / Notre Dame Red Deer, AB / 2018

Scouting Report: 6-foot-4, 210-pound uncommitted 2018 grad was a pleasant surprise in Calgary filling up the top categories stat sheet including the days top exit velo of 90 mph and best fastball on the mound at 84 mph. He definitely looks the part of a college player as far as build and athleticism. Broad shoulders, massive forearms and legs. At the plate bat speed and raw power are there, still a lot of pop being left at the dish in his lower half. He is very athletic considering his frame, effortless and relatively clean arm action along with minimal use of lower half shows that Olson projects to be an easy 90 mph guy. Especially when we consider it was January 27th and he has not been throwing regular bullpens during the offseason.

Jared Eifler RHP / Junior Dinos Academy, AB / 2018

Scouting Report:  Listed at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, Eifler showcased his large repertoire of pitches. At 78-80 mph, he has the ability to run and cut his fastball. Has good feel for both his slider and his curveball. Both have tight spin, good break and depth. Features a ¾ arm slot, loose, easy arm. Will do well at the next level.
