Helena defeats Auburn 12-9 on Opening Day for both teams.

In a game matching ranked teams in Helena (#10, 6A) and Auburn (#6, 7A), the Huskies took the lead in the 6^th inning and held on to defeat the Tigers. Both teams swung the bat well as Helena finished with 10 hits to Auburn’s 11. Senior UAH signee Will Griffith got the start on the mound for Helena and went 2 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 3 Tiger hitters. Preston Daugherty relieved Griffith and worked 2 2/3 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs. Landon Leake worked 1 2/3 and was credited with the win. Gavin Daniel came in to record the final out of the game and gain the save. Matthew Rhodes got the start for the Tigers and went 1 2/3 innings and gave up 3 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 3. Junior Jack Tullier relieved Rhodes and was very effective over his 2 1/3 innings. He only allowed 1 hit while not giving up a run with 4 strikeouts. Helena jumped on top with 3 runs in the first inning but Auburn answered with 3 runs in the 3^rd to tie things up. Auburn scored 2 in the 4^th to take a 5-3 before Helena scored 2 in the top half of the 5^th to knot the game at 5 apiece. Helena would take the lead for good in the 6^th by scoring 3 runs. A solo shot off of Leake's bat gave the Huskies the lead for good. Auburn scored a single run in the 6^th before Helena added 4 in the top of the 7^th. Auburn would make things very interesting in the bottom half of the 7^th by scoring 3 runs and loading the bases with 2 outs with the go ahead run at the plate but Helena brought in Daniel to get the final out on a ground ball. .

              Auburn defeated Oxford 10-0 later in the day.
