'21 2B Landon Leake (Southern Union CC) attended our first ever PBR Alabama showcase, and it’s been great to see how much he’s progressed and gotten better over the past couple of years. Played a big role at the plate hitting in the two-hole, especially in the fourth inning. Leake caught a fastball over the middle/inner-half of the plate and pulled it down the left field line for a RBI double. Barrel stays through the zone a while, has enough strength in the 5-10, 180 pound frame to hit for some power. Leake has been a consistent performer for the Huskies for the last few years. Reliable defender up the middle. Scored the winning run on a RBI sacrifice fly to end the game. Gamer-type mentality.
5-foot-9, 178-pound physical frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 94 mph. Uses a leg kick to initiate his swing. Had efficient bat speed and uphill swing plane. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 84 mph; has athletic feet and soft hands. Had consistent accuracy to the bag and a consistent arm action. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.85. On the mound, had a short arm action with quick arm speed. Showed some effort in his delivery. Shows a clean finish. Threw his fastball 84-85 mph with a max of 86 mph; has a heavy movement. His slider (74-76) shows in the zone command and tight action. His changeup (76-77) had fading action. No doubt a high level uncommitted '21 in the state.
Fluid actions at SS and showed plus footwork and the ball carried out of the hand on his throws. Nice flexibility in the hips and the glove work is solid. Solid make up defensively. At the plate he started with a slightly open stance and did a nice job staying synced up with his lower and top half. The approach was a definite middle one and he did a nice job of keeping the back elbow slotted against the body in the swing, resulting in a very short, simple swing. Quick hands at the plate and stayed balanced throughout.
9.23.18- a very athletic kid that was one of the top runners at the event (4.35 H to 1B) and showed one of the top exit velo numbers at 87 mph. Glove work was fundamentally solid and his feet worked well (maybe a little “choppy”) that consistently made plays. Has a deep load at the plate with a high leg approach but sets up athletically and has some quickness in hands. Has some natural strength and whip at the plate. Interesting 2021 to watch…
Landon Leake (2021 SS/OF, Helena HS) 5’8 155 lbs- had a very impressive day while posting some of the event’s top measurables. In the IF, he showed off nice footwork to go along with quick hands. He posted an IF velo of 79 mph to 1B. He ran 7.13 60 yard dash, which led the event. Offensively, his exit velo was 87 mph off of a tee. He possessed a nice middle approach with a short, compact swing during his BP round.
