TEAM STRENGTHS:

The pitching staff should be a strength this year for the Tigers.

OUTLOOK:

The Madison County Tigers return six positional starters and four pitchers that logged significant innings on the mound a year ago. Coach Jason Scott will be looking for some of those older players to provide some needed leadership to the team. The Tigers should be able to limit the number of runs scored against them with the arms that return but offensive productivity needs to improve as well. Senior RHP/SS Austin Mills returns to lead the pitching staff and is also a key component with the bat and at SS. The University of South Alabama signee begins his senior year as a four year starter in the program. Mills shows an upper 80’s FB accompanied with a wipeout slider. ‘20 C/RHP Cannon Daversa also returns to the lineup for the third year and is a switch hitting catcher that will be looked on to produce some runs from the middle of the order. The Calhoun Community College signee will also toe the rubber with a mid to upper 80’s fastball. Another senior, INF/RHP/OF Connor Geiger, also returns to the lineup for his third year as a starter. Geiger is a very versatile player who will see time at 3B and left field. Two juniors also return after starting as sophomores in 2019 in OF Ben Cagle and OF/LHP Connor Edwards. Cagle will lock down CF and be the table setter out of the leadoff spot for the big bats behind him in the order. Edwards will be counted on as a two way guy in the outfield and on the mound. Edwards shows a fastball with nice arm side action from the left side. Two newcomers to look for in 2020 are ‘22 INF Ramiro Towers and ‘23 INF/RHP Nolan Daversa. Towers is a very talented player that has that “it” factor and returns after missing the 2019 season due to injury. Daversa looks to help the Tigers this year in a variety of roles. The skill set is solid for the freshman and he can also eat some innings on the mound. The Tigers figure to be in the thick of the area race this season.
