OUTLOOK:

The Wildcats return a ton of experience from 2019 as Coach Cory Hamrick enters his second season at the helm of the Shelby County baseball program. Last season was a huge step in the right direction with hopes that 2020 brings even more success. Several seniors step into a leadership role for the coming season. One of those seniors is RHP/3B Austin Harris who was 10-1 last season on the mound and garnered All State honors. The table setter for the Wildcats is senior CF/LHP Greg Oliver who is a switch hitting speedster that is a terror on the base paths. Senior Wyatt Miskelly is a C/RHP that plays the game with a bit of a throwback mentality. Miskelly shows some pop off the barrel and a low 80’s fastball that shows nice arm side action and sink. He’s a competitor. ‘21 RHP/OF JP Fox returns to the lineup for the 2020 campaign and will be counted on as a position player and right handed pitcher. The Wildcats are set up the middle on the infield for the next few years with sophomores Matthew Pearson and Connor Aderholt. Both ‘22 grads have smooth defensive actions and show a very mature approach at the plate. Junior JT Pennington is a physical 1B (6’3 285 lbs.) that is a definite SEC caliber football prospect but he brings some major juice to the plate for the Wildcats. A newcomer is ‘23 1B/DH/RHP Austin Wilson who already shows plus strength in his 6’2 200 lb frame and has big time pop at the plate and has the potential to be a high level hitter in the years to come.  There is some excitement around the program headed into the 2020 season as the Wildcats look to qualify for the 5A state playoffs.
